FOR YOUR SAFETY
The Downtown Wine Stroll is a celebration of fine wines and it is operated under the laws and regulations established by the California State Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) for festivals and events. We are also very concerned by your safety and well being and want everyone to have an enjoyable afternoon and safe return home.
To inquire about a "Designated Driver" please contact Vines & Valleys. For $10 per person they can pick you up and bring you home. Cost will be based on distance and group size, but will be offered for attendees. Vines & Valleys can accommodate up to 10 people per shuttle. For more information and to reserve your designated driver, please contact their office (408) 782-9791 www.vinesandvalleys.com.)
All of our visitors who are planning on sampling the wines must show proof of legal drinking age when picking up your wine glass the day of the event. You will need to present your photo identification on the day of the event in order to receive your glass. Each participant will be given a wristband and each participant must personally come to the wine glass table to get theirs. The wristband is the proof of legal drinking age as well as your proof of payment of the participation fee.
The Downtown Wine Stroll is a tasting event that is designed to allow you to sample a wide variety of different wines. We are required under ABC license that all tasting take place only inside participating locations. No alcoholic beverages are allowed outside the participating businesses or out on the public sidewalk. Streets will not be closed for this event so please use caution when walking downtown and when crossing the street.
We appreciate your help in observing these rules and hope you enjoy our Magic of Sunnyvale Wine Stroll. We look forward to having you downtown and hope you come back for our Music Summer Series + Market and Jazz & Beyond Concert Series beginning in June/July.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
1. What is a Wine Stroll?
It's an event where attendees enjoy wine and some food samples from participating restaurants and retailers all within walking distance of each other. For this event, we will feature up to 20 businesses (we like to call them "host locations") and up to 20 local wineries in downtown Sunnyvale. Aside from the actual "host location" staff being present, winery representatives will be at each host location giving sample tastings and answering any questions you may have about their particular wines, vineyard, facilities, etc. We know how some of you wine connoisseurs can be! :-)
2. Why are you calling it "The Magic of Sunnyvale Wine Stroll"?
There are many cities that have wine strolls; what makes "The Magic of Sunnyvale's" Stroll unique is that it also features the largest outdoor assemblance of magicians at one event in the entire bay area! You do not have to participate in the wine stroll you and your family may come down and enjoy the free outdoor magic shows. As attendees stroll from "host location" to "host location" they will be entertained by some of the best professional magicians California has to offer. Some magicians will be obvious . . ., on the sidewalk, in the middle of the street or in front of a table, asking you to pick a card, etc. Without giving away all of their trade secrets, many of the magicians will be incognito/undercover. Let's just say things will be happening throughout the stroll and you will be asking yourself, "Was that magic or was that a coincidence!?" hmmmm.....
3. When and where is the stroll being held?
Where: Downtown Sunnyvale, California; When: 2:30 to 5:30 p.m., Saturday, May 13, Check-in starts at 1:30 p.m. at the Sunnyvale Chamber of Commerce, 260 S. Sunnyvale Avenue, Sunnyvale; Cost: $30 per person in advance or $35 on the day of the event; Tickets available in advance at participating businesses and at the Sunnyvale Chamber of Commerce.
4. Where can I buy my tickets?
Tickets are available at each business location that is hosting a winery (see above for participating host locations) as well as the Sunnyvale Chamber of Commerce, 260 S. Sunnyvale Avenue (across the street from Macy's Department Store).
5. What happens if you run out of wine?
Tickets for the stroll are limited to 600 tickets. Each attendee is guaranteed at least 20, 1 oz sample pours. We strongly recommend you get your tickets in advance as once all 600 tickets are sold it will be sold out! You'd think with all of the magicians in attendance you could get someone to conjure up some extra tickets and an extra bottle or two out of a hat but we already put that "no, no" stipulation" in their contract . . sorry.
6. Is this the same as the Art & Wine Festival?
No. The Art & Wine Festival is a huge 2-day (always the first weekend in June), outdoor festival that emphasizes artisans. The Magic of Sunnyvale Wine Stroll features the local businesses and local wineries. Although you stroll outside from location to location, all of the wine tasting (and food tasting depending on whether the location is a restaurant or not) takes place only inside of the "host location".
7. How much strolling/walking is involved? Is this event wheelchair accessible?
All of the businesses/host locations are "downtown centric" (with most of them on or around the 100 block of South Murphy Avenue). but please try and visit the businesses that are off the beaten path, that's part of what makes the stroll a stroll. All businesses are ADA compliant. You can also download a 3D map at http://www.sunnyvaledowntown.com/directory.html.
8. My cousin's girlfriend knows some magic tricks - how can she get involved?
Er uh .. . hmmmmmm, I'm sure she must be great at your family get-together's, but we have already commandeered some of the best magi's (as they like to call themselves) in California for this event, including Hollywood's Magic Castle member, Steve Silverman, who is coming up from L.A. for this event. However, feel free to invite your cousin's girlfriend, as I 'm sure she can learn a new trick or two to add to her repertoire.
8. I have another question that wasn't listed, who can I contact to answer my question(s)?
You can call us at (408) 516-7217 or visit our website at www.SunnyvaleDowntown.com or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
See you on there!!!!
